Stressing Out?

We all have points in our daily lives where we find ourselves stressing-out over situations or actions and responses from others. Most of us recognize the accompanying changes in our bodies - increased heart-rate, anxiety, forgetfulness, or loss of our appetite, but how do we manage this stress? How do we stop thinking 'stress'? How do we recognize the triggers? Once you are aware of your stress triggers, you are able to control the outcome.
In our Emotional Wellness workshops, we discuss what happens if we DON'T control our emotions and how this lack of control can lead to life or death situations.
Medical research has found a high correlation between chronic illnesses, and many modern-day diseases and conditions, including heart disease, high blood pressure, onset of adult diabetes and a variety of autoimmune diseases such as fibromyalgia and lupus. Now that we've got your attention, we want to tell you about people who know how to manage stress and those who can't or don't.
Where are you? Stess or Fun? People who know how to manage their stress are immediately aware of their feelings and emotions. Being aware of the stress feelings is the first step to controlling them. They learn how to calm themselves to deal with it productively - take deep breaths, assess the situation, rate the problem. They don't sweat the 'small stuff''. The people who DO NOT know how to manage their emotions tend to worry about the future - something they have no control over - and they dwell on the past - which is gone.

They also can't handle frustration and engage in unpredictable, sometimes explosive, abusive or self-defeating behavior. Overall, they tend to view stress as an external event; they don't realize that stress is the body's reaction to their own thoughts and perceptions. Reduce your stress by HAVING SOME FUN!
Practice gratitude daily, recognize the signs of stress and learn how to cope with the feelings. It is easier than it sounds and it works! Recognize the triggers and head them off by having some fun - listen to music, go to a yoga class, watch a movie or go for a walk. Take control of having fun in your life and reduce the affects stress have on your well-being.
