Peg Ball has worked as a disability rights advocate for over 25 years, including work at Centers for Independent Living in Kalamazoo MI, Lansing MI, Tucson AZ, and currently in Ann Arbor MI. Peg is a Board member and Co-Chair of Partners in Personal Assistance, a nonprofit organization managed by people with disabilities and people who provide personal assistance services. She served as Board Secretary for the Michigan Quality Community Care Council, a group developing a statewide registry of Personal Assistants. She also serves on the Board of The Leaven Center, a retreat and study center that nurtures the relationship between spirituality and social justice.
Peg has a passion for equal access, especially in the area of housing. She founded Alternatives in Housing, a nonprofit organization in Tucson, AZ that addresses issues of housing and personal assistance services for individuals with significant disabilities. In Ann Arbor, she has served on the boards of Community Housing Alternatives and Homeplace Community Land Trust, nonprofit affordable housing organizations, and on the board of the Washtenaw Community Health Organization. Peg led training and survey efforts in Washtenaw County to identify polling place barriers, and advised staff on access modifications. Peg’s love for nature and awareness of health issues has instilled in her a commitment to advocate for environmentally safe construction techniques. Her life experience with a significant disability has taken her through segregated schooling, short-term nursing home stays, subsidized housing, extensive experience in hiring and managing Personal Assistants, and has cultivated in her a spirit of hope and an ability to find creative solutions for even the most challenging of situations.
Channeling her experience and concern for others into the development of a Life Coaching practice, Peg assists her clients in goal-setting and achievements that bring joy and a sense of accomplishment into their lives.
Peg has a Master’s in Social Work with an emphasis in counseling and rehabilitation and is a CTA Certified Coach. In addition to an active professional life, she has an array of interests including camping, horses, word games, and internet research. Peg and her partner of fifteen years share a home in Ann Arbor with their two cats and Peg’s service dog.
